in Social Media
In the past few weeks we’ve had three major updates to some of social’s biggest power players— Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. Some of the changes are great for business owners, while some are a bit lackluster. We’ve put together the top takeaways to help you understand the basics.
Move over Snapchat, Instagram Stories has arrived! And we approve of this new feature for all small businesses. “Why", you ask? There isn’t a migration to a new platform because your brand enthusiasts are already there and following you! The interface is much more community driven and user-friendly. Users like how it brings a level of “realness” and creativity to this picture perfect platform that some found intimidating. Instagram also removed the guessing game on how to click through and use each feature, which is something Snapchat lacks. Two thumbs way up!
Facebook introduced a new layout design for business pages. The design is suppose to help followers find the information they want faster. I am not completely sold on this update. I think the different designs between personal and business pages could hurt brands. Businesses make major efforts to show in people’s newsfeeds and convert those views into engagement. But once the user comes to the business page they’ll be reminded of the difference and could switch back to their newsfeeds and move along. The new design doesn’t seem unifying… only time will tell.
Pinterest changed their profile layout AGAIN. While many people enjoy their app redesign that launched back in March/April, the recent profile layout redesign is not getting the same praise. The new design seems very elementary for such a sophisticated social network. It’s much less image focused with it’s new chunky, enlarged layout. While it’s not as significant of a change as Facebook’s business pages redesign, it is still worth noting when you’re pinning for your business.
